The TROIKE Family Story
Family owned and operated.
Our mission is to introduce NW Indiana to a superior quality product that is locally raised, 100% sustainable, and eco-friendly, at an affordable price.
Jason and Kristen Troike were living outside of Indianapolis, and wanted to move to northern Indiana to be close to family, and to raise their son in the country.
One of their goals was to join the Troike family business of farming. Jason's parents, Ed and Debbie Troike, are grain farmers in Hamlet, IN, as was his grandfather, Warren Burch.
Unfortunately, Jason has horrible allergies and could not become a grain farmer like his father and grandfather. On top of that Jason was diagnosed with a chronic vision impairment, so they needed to find something where Kristen could manage the daily operations.
The Troikes discovered shrimp farming, and felt it was a perfect fit for them. After several tours, classes, and a business proposal later, Hoosier Shrimp Farm LLC was born.
The next step was finding a location for the farm and their home. The Troikes spent months looking for property in the Hamlet area. Finally, in the winter of 2013 a beautiful 95-acre farm in Walkerton became available, and the Troikes didn't hesitate.
We started with our first 2 tanks of shrimp on September 15th, 2014 and opened our doors for retail sales by the end of January 2015.
